Be Bold, and Support Creativity
Many emerging artists earn little to nothing from their work, with financial pressures and daily responsibilities often forcing them to pause or abandon their art practice.
Purchase a painting, drawing or a limited edition print to help and support the artist.
about the artist
Misra Balkan is a visual artist and art assistant with a BFA in Painting & Printmaking from Glasgow School of Art. Fluent in English and Turkish, she combines diverse international influences to shape a multifaceted artistic practice that bridges cultural and conceptual boundaries.
Balkan’s work delves into the dynamic interplay between creation and decay, capturing the energy flow between the ground and the sky and exploring the cycles of nature through constantly shifting forms. Inspired by ancient and primitive art, hieroglyphs, and the tension between negative and positive space, her practice reflects on the raw essence of existence. These elements intertwine to create a visual language that embraces the fluidity of life, celebrating sensuality, transformation, and the passage of time.
Her exploration extends to the relationship between nature and identity, investigating how primal instincts and desires shape individual consciousness. Balkan’s art challenges conventional boundaries, offering a celebration of diversity and interconnectedness while evoking the extraordinary through a dance of forms, energy, and meaning.
“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way—things I had no words for.”
Georgia O’Keeffe
